Subsequent to the release of the below alert and following a number of serious incidents where vehicles have fallen from hoists whilst in an elevated position, WorkSafe is currently conducting an inspection program of automotive workshops to ensure compliance, particularly with a focus on vehicle hoist safety.
The inspection program is looking at safety locks – the VACC OHSE Unit are still finding an alarming amount of safety locks not being correctly engaged during OHS audits.
VACC and WorkSafe Victoria recently released information on this to the industry and information is available on the WorkSafe Victoria website.
Also due to recent incidents, this blitz will likely include sighting company procedures for working on unevenly weighted trade type vehicles.
VACC members are encouraged to take this inspection program seriously and to be prepared for a potential WorkSafe inspection.
